Book review: Leadership Rigor!: Breakthrough Performance & Productivity Leading Yourself, Teams, Organizations

By Erica Peitler

Erica is presenting the workshop Inclusive Decision-Making and Problem-Solving: Using Analytical RigorTM at the 2015 HBA Annual Conference, November 3- 5, 2015 at the Marriott Marquis in Atlanta. Register now.

Leadership Rigor is described as “both a practice and a philosophy designed to accelerate your leadership performance and productivity across the life cycle of your career.” That makes this not just another leadership book, of which there are many fine ones; this is way more than just a book.

Leadership Rigor is a toolbox offering you an improvement model to get you to as far up the ladder as you want to go. Erica says leadership is learned and she is teaching us the language, mindset and emotional skills to be a great leader. First you work on yourself in part one, the section that includes “The Progressive Mindset”, then you learn how to lead teams using “Analytical Rigor”, and then the company using “Organizational Excellence”.

Leadership Rigor is a discipline you practice. Erica makes this easy with this book that walks you through each step. The book has images that remind me of handouts, offering the key points in an easy to remember way. She also highlights text to again make it easy to go back and review the key messages in each section.

I’ve already put some of what I learned reading this book into practice and can’t wait to do more. Thank you Erica!
